When I joined this TRULY AMAZING community in October 2017, my avatar (the little picture under my pseudonym) was a mask weeping drops of blood from one eye and smiling with the other - also crying with one half of its mouth while laughing with the other. I was soldiering on, trying to be 'normal' but hurting inside ... After working through Sheri's book, 'Done with the Crying', I changed my avatar to a sprouting acorn (symbolising new growth), followed by a (determined) jolly blogger, then a fierce lioness, then a compassionate dragon with a soft spot for vulnerable critters. My latest avatar is meant to convey my commitment to encouraging folk less fortunate or confident or feisty than me to fly! PS: I live in South Africa and have two estranged children, both of whom waited until their forties to reject me. But the warning signs were there for many years. I also have a younger son who was diagnosed with a chronic mental illness in his teens but is now well and leading a normal life. My estrangement was triggered by differences of opinion over that. As a result, I feel very strongly about psychiatric labelling. Please feel free to read the topics I've started, as well as past replies.
